Barbara

Barbara is a clinical exercise trainer at Longevity Health and Fitness. She works with clients navigating a wide range of health conditions, with a particular focus on neurological conditions, and active ageing, lower back and joint pain.

Barbara typically supports clients with neurological conditions, and especially enjoys working with people with Parkinson’s Disease, where she makes the sessions fun and challenging at the same time. Working together with neurophysios, case managers, psychologists, and occupational therapists helps her better understand clients’ needs and realise that everyone is different and that each client requires a unique approach.

She loves seeing her elderly clients become stronger and more confident in their daily movements. In sessions, they focus on strength, balance, coordination, as well as cognitive functions and reactions. She believes that working out should be something clients are looking forward to, and she always brings a smile and a positive attitude to training.

During her time working for Longevity Health and Fitness, Barbara has attended a number of courses and seminars that have helped to increase her knowledge of how to train people with different medical conditions.

Barbara is a strong believer that movement is the best medication. This work is her passion, and she will always use exercises to help clients with day-to-day activities, movements that will ease their pain and create habits that will improve their quality of life. And we always try to make it fun!!!

Success stories

After a series of falls left one of our 96-year-old clients bed-bound, his family were unsure if progress was possible.

Within weeks of starting tailored clinical exercise sessions, he was able to stand, walk the length of the house with his walker, and no longer needed carers during the day to use the commode. Improved upper body and core strength also meant he could change sleeping positions unaided.

After experiencing a stroke, Jim was left with weakness on one side of their body and reduced balance, making everyday activities feel unsafe and exhausting.

Through regular neuro-rehabilitation sessions, the programme focused on rebuilding strength, coordination, and walking gait, while introducing strategies to improve confidence with movement.

Jim

Shimon began working with Longevity Health and Fitness at the age of 75, living with a long history of Parkinson’s disease alongside type II diabetes. At the time, his symptoms included significant tremor, lateral trunk flexion to the left, reduced strength, fatigue, and major limitations in mobility and balance. Every day tasks required a high level of support, and his independence had decreased significantly.

Specialised exercise for health conditions and well-being

Your health today doesn’t have to limit your tomorrow. Our clinical exercise programs are tailored to support you, considering any health challenges or considerations you may have.

Following some months of chronic back pain and fatigue, I decided that a personal trainer might be able to help me: it was one of the wisest decisions I’ve ever made.

My trainer comes to my home and over a few weeks has worked through various exercises with me. She has restored my self confidence by improving my posture and sense of balance and encouraging me to set realistic goals and expectations.

I have started driving again so I’m able to get out and about a bit more. She is enormously committed to her work and somehow manages to make many of the exercises great fun.

I’m looking forward to the weather improving so that we can take walks together

A wonderful physio service! They have found excellent physios for us over the years. When my husband moved to a care home Longevity Health and Fitness found us the absolutely wonderful Barbara. She has experience with elderly people. Her wheelchair exercises helps with stiffness and alignment. Invaluable. Longevity perfectly matched us with exactly the right physio.

I found LHF by chance when I was looking for a clinical trainer for my husband Jim who had a major stroke 6 years ago. What a find. It has made such a difference to Jim’s strength and stamina and is allowing him to maintain some independence. Barbara his trainer is patient and understanding and also pushes him when required. We started on one session a week but now have two which frees up some of my time. Can’t recommend enough.

Highly recommend. My 96 year old father was left bed bound after a series of falls exacerbated his long term severe knee issues. A specialist doctor recommended Longevity Health and Fitness. I was a bit doubtful about the benefit as previous physiotherapists had not made any improvements.

Well, after a few weeks my father is now able to stand and walk the length of the house with his walker. He no longer needs carers during the day to use the commode. His upper body strength and core has also improved so he can now change his sleeping position unaided.

It has changed my mum and dad’s quality of life. Money well spent !

His clinical exercise specialist, Barbara, is a lovely person and my parents look forward to her visits.

Barbara has been absolutely amazing, my mum was reluctant to start but now loves it and looks forward to every session.

I can’t thank Longevity and Barbara enough for the change I have seen in my mum in only a couple of months.

Would highly recommend
