Sarah*
Sarah*, aged 68, came to Longevity Health & Fitness following hip surgery, where her rehabilitation had not progressed as expected. She had attempted to manage her recovery independently but had not followed a structured rehabilitation programme. As a result, she continued to experience pain, stiffness, and very limited mobility. At the time we began working together, she could only walk short distances and remained reliant on a crutch.
Sarah’s main goals were to reduce pain and stiffness, regain confidence in walking, and return to her normal pre-operation lifestyle.
We introduced a structured physiotherapy programme tailored to her stage of recovery. This focused on improving hip mobility, rebuilding strength in the hip and lower limb muscles, and restoring balance and walking mechanics. Exercises were progressed gradually, with careful monitoring of pain levels to ensure safe and consistent improvement.
Over the course of four months, Sarah made significant progress. She reduced her pain and stiffness, progressed from using a crutch to walking independently, and steadily increased her walking distance and endurance. She also regained enough strength and confidence to return to Pilates, travel independently, and resume her writing.
Because Sarah had not completed early-stage rehabilitation after surgery, the early stages of her programme required careful load management. Exercises and walking distances were progressed gradually to build strength and confidence while avoiding symptom flare-ups.
