Debbie

Debbie began working with Longevity Health and Fitness in her early 60s after being diagnosed with moderate to severe osteoporosis and starting osteoporosis medication. At the time, she felt unsure about how to exercise safely and was understandably concerned about fracture risk. Although she knew movement was important for her long-term bone health, she lacked confidence in knowing which exercises were appropriate and how to progress without causing harm.

Debbie’s goals were to support her bone health alongside medication, build strength and stability, and feel confident exercising safely with osteoporosis. She wanted reassurance that what she was doing was evidence based, effective, and suitable for her diagnosis.

Training began with regular one-to-one sessions focused on strength and resistance-based exercise to support bone health. Sessions were carefully structured around appropriate bone loading principles, with close attention paid to technique, posture, and control. Exercises were selected specifically to stimulate bone while minimising unnecessary risk, and progressions were introduced gradually to allow Debbie’s confidence to grow alongside her physical capacity.

Education was a key part of the process. Debbie was supported to understand why certain exercises were chosen, how they contributed to bone health, and how to move with confidence rather than fear. Sessions were adapted depending on how she felt on the day, ensuring safety while still providing an effective training stimulus.

Over the first few months, Debbie experienced clear improvements in strength and postural control. Just as importantly, her confidence with movement increased significantly. She developed a much clearer understanding of what safe and effective exercise for osteoporosis looks like and felt reassured that she could continue exercising without constantly worrying about injury or fractures.

Support remains ongoing, with exercise progressions carefully managed alongside her medication and individual response. Debbie’s journey highlights how structured, supervised exercise can play a vital role in osteoporosis treatment, helping individuals feel stronger, more confident, and empowered to take an active role in their bone health.
