Yvonne, in her 60s, came to us looking for support with osteoarthritis, which was primarily affecting her knee and shoulder. At the start, her main challenge was managing significant pain and stiffness, particularly when walking and bearing weight through the affected knee. This was also impacting her confidence with everyday movement, with walking often resulting in a limp.
Yvvone’s primary goal was to be able to walk more comfortably without a limp, alongside reducing pain during weight-bearing activities and improving overall mobility. Restoring confidence in her ability to move safely and independently was a key focus from the outset.
Training was delivered through weekly 1-1 sessions, supported by a structured home exercise plan completed 2–3 times per week. Sessions focused on building lower-body strength, improving balance, and developing safe and controlled weight-bearing movements to support gait and stability. Upper body mobility work was also included, with particular attention given to improving shoulder movement and reducing discomfort. A key part of the approach was building confidence in everyday movement patterns, helping Yvvone feel more stable and capable outside of sessions.
Over the course of two months, Yvvone experienced clear improvements in both strength and mobility. She is now able to stand and walk with a significantly reduced limp and can tolerate weight-bearing activity for longer periods with far less pain. Alongside these physical changes, she reports feeling noticeably stronger and more confident in her movement overall.
Progress was supported through consistent engagement in sessions, although completion of the home exercise plan was occasionally impacted by time constraints, which slightly affected progression between appointments. Even so, steady improvements were maintained throughout the programme, with meaningful functional gains achieved within a relatively short timeframe.
