Stella
Stella, in her 70s, came to Longevity Health & Fitness with ongoing knee arthritis and a history of three heart stents. When she first began, one of the biggest barriers was severe knee pain that caused a noticeable limp and made cardiovascular exercise difficult to tolerate. This was limiting both her confidence and her ability to improve fitness safely.
Her main priorities were to strengthen her cardiovascular health while reducing knee discomfort, allowing her to move more freely and exercise with greater ease. Supporting joint function without aggravating symptoms was an important part of the overall approach.
Training took place through three group sessions each week, providing regular structure, consistency, and support. Sessions included a combination of lower and upper body strength work, mobility exercises, balance training, and interval-based cardiovascular exercise. This mix helped improve overall fitness while also building strength around the knee to better support movement and reduce discomfort.
Across five months, Stella achieved excellent progress. Knee pain reduced significantly, with only minimal discomfort remaining, and her walking pattern improved as pain eased. She was also able to work at a much higher intensity during interval training, demonstrating clear gains in stamina, fitness, and confidence.
As her ability improved, there were occasions where she pushed beyond what her body could comfortably tolerate, which sometimes led to temporary flare-ups in pain. However, this became an important learning point within her journey, helping her better understand her limits, pace herself effectively, and train more confidently moving forward.
Overall, Stella’s progress has resulted in stronger fitness levels, improved mobility, and a much greater understanding of how to exercise in a way that supports both her heart health and joint health long term.
