Fiona
Fiona began working with the team while managing multiple sclerosis, alongside foot drop and a noticeable reduction in walking speed. At the time, everyday walking required more effort, foot clearance felt unreliable, and there were understandable concerns about maintaining mobility and fitness long term as neurological symptoms fluctuated.
Her goals were to preserve her ability to walk for as long as possible, improve strength and confidence, manage the impact of foot drop, and continue exercising safely to support long-term health and independence.
Fiona completed regular one-to-one exercise sessions focused on neurological-informed strength training, balance, and functional mobility. Sessions targeted lower-limb strength, ankle and hip control, gait-specific movements, and overall cardiovascular fitness. Each session was adapted to how she was feeling on the day, with careful consideration given to fatigue and symptom variability, ensuring progress without overloading her system.
Over the following months, Fiona developed greater confidence with walking and improved awareness and control of her lower-limb movement. Her general fitness improved, and she felt more confident continuing to exercise safely alongside MS. While symptom fluctuations required ongoing adjustments, the flexible and individualised approach allowed her to remain consistent and supported.
Six months on, Fiona continues with ongoing support, using exercise as a key tool to maintain mobility, confidence, and independence while living with MS.
