Katrina

Katrina, in her 50s, came to Longevity Health and Fitness after being diagnosed with borderline osteopenia progressing toward osteoporosis. While she understood the importance of strength training for bone health, she felt anxious about lifting weights and unsure which types of exercise were safe and effective for her condition. A fear of injury and doing the “wrong” thing had left her lacking confidence with strength-based exercise, despite wanting to take proactive steps to protect her long-term health.

Her goals were focused on improving bone density, building strength in a safe and progressive way, and gaining the confidence to lift weights independently at home. Reducing her future fracture risk through appropriate, evidence-based exercise was a key priority.

Maisie supported Katrina through a carefully structured strength programme designed specifically to support bone health. Sessions focused on safe loading strategies, correct technique and gradual progression, ensuring each movement felt achievable and controlled. Education played a central role throughout the process, helping Katrina understand why specific exercises were chosen and how they contributed to improving bone density, strength and overall resilience.

In the early stages, exercises and loading were adapted to prioritise confidence and safety, allowing Katrina to build trust in her body and the process. As her confidence and capacity improved, resistance and complexity were gradually increased, always at a pace that felt appropriate for her.

Over the past seven months, Katrina has made steady and meaningful progress. She now lifts weights independently at home, feels confident engaging in strength training, and has developed a much clearer understanding of how to exercise safely with low bone density. Alongside improvements in strength, her increased movement confidence has empowered her to take an active role in protecting her bone health for the long term.

“After a DEXA scan revealed I was borderline between osteopenia and osteoporosis, I sought expert guidance to safely build strength and bone density. Maisie has been incredibly supportive, helping me start gently with the right exercises, very different from what I expected! Thanks to her advice, I now confidently lift weights at home and feel stronger than ever. Her knowledge and guidance have been invaluable!”
